CSA® – Certified Security Associate
The Professional Standard for Security Practitioners
Validates professional competence to practice corporate and physical security across operational environments.
CSA® — The Professional Standard for Security Practice
The Certified Security Associate (CSA®) credential establishes the professional standard for security practice, validating that a certified individual meets globally governed expectations for competence, ethics, and operational readiness in corporate and physical security.
CSA® certifies professional security capability, not job title or hierarchy. It confirms that a practitioner—regardless of current role—demonstrates the essential knowledge, judgment, and discipline required to operate within modern security environments.
The CSA® credential validates proficiency across the core pillars of security practice, including physical security operations, SOC and control room functions, investigations and reporting, and professional decision-making aligned with organizational objectives.
CSA® is intentionally positioned as a universal professional certification. It is applicable across career stages and serves as:
- The professional baseline for security practitioners
- A formal validation for experienced professionals seeking credentialed recognition
- The entry standard for those progressing toward specialist, management, or executive certification pathways
CSA® does not certify management authority or executive responsibility. Instead, it confirms professional security practice readiness, forming the common standard upon which specialist (CSS® / CSI®), management (CSM®), and executive (CSD®) certifications are built.
Eligibility is based on demonstrated professional security experience—typically a minimum of two years—and applies broadly across operational, specialist, management, and leadership career stages.
CSA® is the credential that defines what it means to be a certified security professional.

Earning and Maintaining Your CSA® Credential
Passing the exam is the final knowledge checkpoint, but two additional steps are required to officially earn the CSA® designation and ensure its ongoing validity: the Certification Application (including the Annual Maintenance Fee) and Continuing Professional Education (CPE).
Step 1: The Final Application & AMF (Post-Exam Verification)
After successfully passing the CSA® exam, you must submit your final application for official award of the credential. This step validates your experience and finalizes your designation.
- Application Submission: Submit your required documentation, including the signed Code of Conduct and proof of required work experience (minimum 2 years).
- Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF): Payment of the first Annual Maintenance Fee is required to finalize your certification.
- Fee: $99 USD (or equivalent in local currency).
- Benefit: This is a single annual fee that covers the maintenance of ALL CorpSecurity International certifications you hold (CSA®, CSS®, CSI®, CSM®, CSD®, etc.).
- Award: Once approved by the Certification Board and the AMF is paid, you are officially awarded the Certified Security Associate (CSA®) designation.
Step 2: Recertification and CPEs
To maintain the prestige and currency of your certification, you must adhere to the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program.
| Requirement | Detail |
| Certification Validity | 3 years |
| Annual Requirement | Pay the Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF) and earn/report a minimum of 15 CPE credits annually. |
| Total CPE Required | 45 CPE credits total over the 3-year cycle. |
| Recertification | The final recertification application (and validation of 45 CPEs) must be submitted once every 3 years to renew the credential. |
| Relevance | All CPE activities must relate to the CSA® exam domains or the broader field of physical security. |
Grace Period: You have a three-month grace period after your certification’s expiry date to complete the recertification process, but all 45 CPEs must have been earned within the original three-year cycle.
